In the second small harbor of Vouliagmeni lies an underwater spot of unique interest. While many are familiar with Lake Vouliagmeni, few know about its connection to the sea through a vast underwater tunnel system that ends in a well.
Research has uncovered that this tunnel is impressively large, with many branches and narrow passages, which have neither been fully explored nor completely mapped.
Within Lake Vouliagmeni, there is a large cave. Upon entering the cave, one encounters three chambers that serve as the entrance to a vast, dark tunnel system. This tunnel also has an entrance from the sea, specifically through the well located in the second harbor of Vouliagmeni, where we will dive.
As we enter the water, the first thing we encounter is a black hole, which is the entrance to the well at a depth of 10 meters. The diameter of the well is large enough to accommodate several divers at once. The vertical length of the well is 20 meters, so when we reach the bottom, which has a sandy floor, we find ourselves at exactly 30 meters deep. There, we encounter a large entrance with metal bars, above which is a sign that reads, "Beyond this point, there is nothing worth seeing more than life itself," serving as a warning against entering the tunnel system that leads to Lake Vouliagmeni.
Sunlight is sufficient to illuminate our entire descent, highlighting the beautiful colors on the walls of the well. After exiting the well, we continue our dive along a very beautiful wall, either on the left or right side of the bay.
The marine life we will encounter includes lionfish, octopuses, moray eels, starfish, sea urchins, and various schools of fish.
